Dinner, the revolution according Mark and Night Prayer

Published by tom under Event

September 27, 2009
6:30 pmto9:00 pm

Each week the Canterbury House hosts a dinner followed by a discussion.  Currently we are looking at the gospel of Mark, it’s revolutionary tone, its contextual past and what it means for you now.  Delve into a book that is around 1940 years old!  We end our time with a sung version of night prayer based on a tradition dating back to the 6th century but words reflecting the reality of today.

episco-disco! at Grace Cathedral

Published by tom under Event

September 19, 2009
7:00 pmto10:00 pm

The day and the hour have come and will soon be here of what many have called the Most Episcopal Disco in the greater San Francisco yay area.

This SATURDAY is the one, the only EPISCODISCO! San Francisco’s one and only Episco-fiesta!

Come join DJ MELANIE BEE

(Little Wizard Hour/All Fall Down)

Art Instillation Crated by the sensational PARADISE NOW (JEAN COONEY & EVE EKMAN) featuring new work by Sarah Filley

The Lovely and talented Mixologist AnnaMarie

And the only host more Priestly than Jason: Fr. BERTIE P

Come join us for beverages, big jams and Episcopal Shenanigans.

According to 7×7 Magazine:

WHERE: Grace Cathedral Intersection of Taylor and California Streets in San Francisco (It’s huge, you really can’t miss it!)

Bertie P. has long been a fixture on the nightlife scene, MCing and DJing parties (Blow Up, Frisco Disco, Boner Party) as his out-of-this-world alter-egos. Four months ago, he became an Episcopal priest. Seriously. But it didn’t stop him from starting another party at his new office—Grace Cathedral. EpiscoDisco brings DJs, drinks and other good stuff into the famed church on the third Saturday night of the month. 1100 California St.

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION:

Filley’s installation, PRAYER ROPE, consists of 300 feet of 12-braid, marine-grade, black rope. The imagery of this heavy, knotted rope brings with it associations of seafaring and military operations to eroticism and rituals of the sacred. In her own words, “The physical act of tying 100 knots in the PRAYER ROPE is a contemplative act, which has a history well beyond my own hands. Maybe we need an overscaled PRAYER ROPE for our REALLY big sins. Or, perhaps it acts as a public plea for our collective guilt. Or, more poignantly, it may provide a visual reminder of the humility of each of our spirits.”
