6:30 pmto7:00 pm

Each Thursday at 6:30 there is a prayer in the tradition of Taizé each week in the canterbury house.  This form of contemplative prayer comes from the community of Taizé in Burgundy, France.  Visited each summer by tens of thousands of young adults, the monastery of Taizé explores reconciliation, simplicity of life and contemplation of God as a community experience.  Visit the website at www.taize.fr

Are you interested in helping shape how the canterbury community may continue in the central act of worship dating back to the last night of Jesus’ earthly life?  Beginning in Advent the Canterbury community will be holding a weekly eucharistic liturgy.  During November we must decide how we would like to use music, visual art, creative expression and determine how we can better pray for one another while also being intentional about how taking and being the body of Christ shapes our life together.  The planning group is open to all and meets following evensong.  We will go to a nearby restaurant.  Please bring $5 to offset meal costs.

Evensong - Feast of Richard Hooker

Published by tom under Event

November 3, 2009
6:30 pmto7:00 pm

Evensong is a uniquely Anglican form of worship dating back to the prayerbook of 1549.  The service combines the ancient liturgies of night prayer observed my monastics into one service designed for daily use by lay people.  Feel free to join us for this peaceful conclusion to the day.  At this service we will remember the life of 16th century theologian and apologist of Anglican Christianity, Richard Hooker originator of what was later called “the three legged stool” in which Anglicans embrace the use of tradition from our forbears in faith, study of scripture and the application of reason to determine how faith is to be applied now.
