Night Prayer

Each week Canterbury continues a tradition dating back at least to the 6th century in which Christians sing the final prayers of the day known as Compline (from the Latin for completorium or completion).  Our community uses ancient melodies from eastern and western traditions combined with prayers developed by the Anglican Province of New Zealand.  The melodies ground us in our past while the prayers unite us with the ever expanding realities of faith in the world around us.

Each Thursday at 6:30 there is a prayer in the tradition of Taizé in the canterbury house.  This form of contemplative prayer comes from the community of Taizé in Burgundy, France.  Visited each summer by tens of thousands of young adults, the monastery of Taizé explores reconciliation, simplicity of life and contemplation of God as a community experience.  Visit the website at www.taize.fr

Photography Show Opening - Mary and the divinity of women

Published by tom under Event

January 22, 2010
6:00 pmto8:00 pm

Morgan Weinert presents photographs of women reclaiming the power of the Virgin Mary.

The opening is on January 22nd from 6-8pm at the Canterbury House.

The images will be up from December 14th through March 19th.

The Virgin has long been an icon of empowerment for women, but this project allowed the women who modeled to choose their own activities and imagery to express what makes them feel empowered and holy. This reclamation of images of the Virgin allows her not only be an icon of Virginity and Faith, but also to become a representation of the Power and Holiness within every woman.
